Sims leads Lady Bulldogs to victory
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast got a season-high 20 points from freshman Eanna Sims and held on for a 58-54 victory over LSU-Eunice on Monday at the Weathers/Wentzell Center.
"She was aggressive to the backboard," Lady Bulldogs coach Jason Conner said. "She was taking it strong to the hole and finishing plays."
The Lady Bulldogs (6-4) avenged an 81-67 loss at LSU-Eunice to split the season series. The Lady Bengals are 4-12.
"They're a tough team," Conner said. "They play all those East Texas teams, and that's the second-best league in the country."
Sims (5-11, Fr, Jackson/Forest Hill) had six offensive rebounds among her team-high eight boards. That contributed to her point total.
Conner credited her movement without the ball with finding more offense.
"I think her ability to be athletic, and her cutting to the basket when the other post player has the ball, she's the best on the team at that," he said. "Then there were a lot of good passes to find her."
Jordana Jolley (5-7, Fr, Brandon/Northwest Rankin) had seven points, and J'nitra Ratliff (5-8, Fr, Port Gibson/Port Gibson) and Eden Duckworth (5-6, Fr, Heidelburg/Heidelburg) grabbed seven rebounds.
Gulf Coast used a 10-0 run that started late in the first quarter and ended in the first minute of the second to open up a lead it would never relinquish.
Gulf Coast returns to action Thursday at Copiah-Lincoln. Tipoff in the first MACJC South Division contest of the new year is at 6 p.m.
The next home game will be Jan. 17 when East Central visits Perkinston.
