MGCCC, MUW tie
Mississippi Gulf Coast gave up a late penalty kick to the Mississippi University for Women, and the Owls and Lady Bulldogs ended tied at 3 on Friday at Columbus.
A flurry of goals in the first 15 minutes left Gulf Coast (3-3-1) with a 2-1 lead. MUW (1-6-1) scored in the fifth minute, but Chloe Fell (Fr., Bury, England/Woodhey) answered a minute later and Curissa Beatty (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) scored her first in the 14th to give the MGCCC the lead.
It stayed that way until another flurry of goals late. MUW tied it in the 80th minute before Beatty scored three minutes later. The penalty came in the final two minutes.
Gulf Coast returns to action Sunday with a trip to Meridian to play Southwest Tennessee. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
