Gulf Coast whips East Central

PERKINSTON – Despite having its No. 1 player sidelined, Mississippi Gulf Coast beat up on East Central on Tuesday at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.

Bryan Allen has stepped into the hole left by Skyler Flowers' absence and the Bulldogs won 8-1. He teamed with Sam Blackburn at No. 1 doubles to help the Bulldogs off to a 3-0 start.

"He really competed well in doubles and gave his best in singles," Gulf Coast coach Gary Bourgeois said. "He's playing a little above his ability, but he's stepped up and really played well in doubles today and yesterday."

Gulf Coast improves to 5-1 in MACJC play. The Bulldogs return to action March 22 at Holmes.

Blackburn, Noah Tippen, Brennan O'Keefe, Brett Bowen and Chris Diep each won both their matches. Allen took the only loss at No. 1 singles.

"There were no emotions involved. Everything was about taking care of business, doing the things we do in practice, the things we talk about in the war room."
