O’Keefe, Tippen win doubles match at nationals
Brennan O'Keefe and Noah Tippen grabbed No. 16 Mississippi Gulf Coast's second win at the NJCAA Division I Men's National Tournament in Plano, Texas, on Tuesday.
The MACJC and Region 23 champs downed Harford's Pablo Safont Ferrer and Bradley Schug 8-6 to remain alive in consolation bracket play.
Chris Diep, who won his opening-round match to get two points for Gulf Coast, lost in No. 2 singles to Schug, 6-0, 6-2.
Tippen and O'Keefe, who had a first-round bye doubles, lost in their first match of the day to Mesa's David Felix and Shimon Murukami, 6-1, 6-1.
The Bulldogs are still in five other consolation brackets: Bryan Allen (No. 1 singles), Sam Blackburn (No. 2 singles) and Brennan O'Keefe (No. 6) will play Wednesday, along with doubles action featuring Allen and Blackburn (No. 1), plus Diep and Brett Bowen (No. 3).
In other consolation bracket play Tuesday:
Tippen lost in No. 3 singles to Collin's Prince Gbadamosi, 8-2.
Bowen lost in No. 4 singles to Glendale's Jesus Chino, 8-3.
