No. 12 Gulf Coast blows by No. 19 ICC

PERKINSTON — No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast dispatched No. 19 Itawamba on Friday at the MGCCC Tennis Complex, remaining unbeaten in MACCC men's tennis play with an 8-1 victory.

"We really overwhelmed Itawamba from the beginning," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "We started playing our best and didn't look back from the start of doubles. Itawamba played a good tennis match at 2 singles, and we didn't get that one, but everybody else won pretty handily and really showed what this team's made of."

Gulf Coast improved to 3-1 overall, 3-0 in the MACCC. Shorthanded ICC defaulted on two courts and falls to 1-3, 1-2.

The two doubles courts lasted about 30 minutes each, with the Bulldogs dropping just three games.

Angel Hernandez (Fr., Puebla, Mexico/UPAEP) helped set the tone in singles with a 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1. Nick Dulaney (So., Long Beach/Long Beach) dropped only two games in a straight-sets victory at No. 5.

Gulf Coast continues its homestand Tuesday when Hinds visits for another MACCC contest. First serves are at 2 p.m.
