Mississippi Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner knew his team faced a challenge headed to East Central on Monday night.
The Lady Bulldogs ran into a pressing buzz saw, falling 91-48 to the Lady Warriors in Decatur.
"The way they play is hard, and it's hard for us to even simulate that," he said. "I'm disappointed. We'll try to keep it duct-taped together."
Kaolin Young was the only Gulf Coast player in double digits with 10 points, and her eight rebounds were the most on the squad.
Gulf Coast (9-3, 1-2 MACJC South) gave up more than double their average points allowed. Lady Bulldogs opponents had averaged 42.0 points per game, with nobody scoring more than 77.
Conner said his squad got beaten to rebounds and loose balls. East Central had a 56-39 advantage on the boards, and Gulf Coast turned the ball over 31 times.
"Defensively, we just didn't sit down and do what we needed to do," Conner said. "Then they got second and third shots. They whooped our tail. We'll have to regroup and try to get a plan together to beat Southwest."
East Central improves to 10-2, 2-1.
Gulf Coast plays Southwest on Thursday in Perkinston. Tipoff at the Weathers/Wentzell Center is at 5:30 p.m.
