Lady Bulldogs close out non-conference play
PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast plays its last regular-season game against a non-MACJC team Saturday when LSU-Eunice visits the Weathers/Wentzell Center.
Tipoff is at 4 p.m. for the Lady Bulldogs, who improved to 8-2 with a 49-45 win over Delgado on Thursday.
"We have to take care the of basketball, take care of the possessions, get a little better flow going and be tough defensively," Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "It's a big game before we start state play."
The Lady Bulldogs trounced LSU-E 98-57 in the last game before the holiday break. Ka'Nosha Fairley hit 5-of-7 of her 3-pointers, leading a scorching hot team effort.
Gulf Coast made 14 of 19 from beyond the arc. The Lady Bengals are 3-13.
"We shot the ball so well against them at their place, and I hope we don't have a false sense of security," Conner said. "This is a good team. They execute well."
The Lady Bulldogs cracked down on Delgado late on Thursday. The Lady Dolphins managed only six fourth-quarter points against the Gulf Coast 2-1-2 zone.
Still, it wasn't a perfect evening with a poor rebounding performance.
"I think we've got to do a better job of being physical on the backboard," Conner said. "I think we need to continue to grow defensively."
Gulf Coast returns to MACJC action Monday, travelling to East Central for a 5:30 tipoff. The Lady Bulldogs split their first two South Division games before the break.
