Lady Bulldogs fall at Lady Bears Classic

Mississippi Gulf Coast saw a 12-point halftime lead fade away and lost 82-77 in overtime to Baton Rouge Community College on Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs split their games at Baton Rouge's Lady Bears Classic to open the regular season.

"We played pretty good in the first half and just didn't match their intensity in the fourth quarter," said Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner. "We shouldn't have lost that one, but I just don't think we matched their intensity. When we were setting the pace, I was very pleased."

Gulf Coast led 39-27 at half, and was up five with 95 seconds left in regulation. Turnovers and poor free throw shooting helped contribute to the loss.

The Lady Bulldogs turned the ball over 32 times and shot 55 percent from the free throw line.

Markeisha Watson had 23 points to lead Gulf Coast. Ka'Nosha Fairley added 15, with Jasmine Nettles knocking in 10. Watson and Kailin Young had a team-high seven rebounds apiece.

The teams were tied at 69 at the end of regulation.

The Lady Bulldogs return to action Nov. 9 in their first home action of the season when Bishop State visits Perkinston.
