Lady Bulldogs lose heartbreaker at Jones

Mississippi Gulf Coast stormed back from an 18-point deficit, but suffered a second heartbreaking defeat to Jones this season.

The Lady Bobcats Tatyana Lofton was fouled with 0.1 seconds left and made both free throws for the final 64-62 margin in Ellisville.

"I was proud of the girls," Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "I'm proud of them. This is a tough place to come play and that is a very good team."

Markeisha Watson led Gulf Coast with 20 points, all after the break after not playing in the first half. Ka'Nosha Fairley hit five 3-pointers for her 15 points, and Kamisha Tarvin added 11 points

Courtney White led the Lady Bulldogs with seven rebounds.

Gulf Coast falls to 9-8, 1-7 MACJC South. Jones improves to 14-3, 6-1.

Watson was called for the final foul on Lofton.

"I thought Bird played as good a D there at the end as she could have possible played," said Conner.

Gulf Coast used its last timeout to advance the ball to halfcourt. The Lady Bulldogs could only hope to get a tip at the buzzer.

"Bird (Watson) was cooking with grease, so I said everybody get of the way and throw it to the rim and go get it, Bird. Maybe we'll get a foul," Conner said. "She got hammered, but nothing was called. You can't expect that on the road."

The Lady Bulldogs return to the Weathers/Wentzell Center on Monday after two straight on the road. Tipoff in Perkinston is at 5:30 p.m.
