Gulf Coast closes out season against Co-Lin
PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast's women's basketball season will come to an end Thursday night, but what the Lady Bulldogs have done will be seen in the years to come.
"I keep telling them every day they're laying down the building blocks of what we want to accomplish here," Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "They're part of it. I'm proud of them."
The Lady Bulldogs (11-11, 3-10 MACJC South) will have to defeat Copiah-Lincoln (19-3, 10-3) to finish with a winning records, but the team has reached double-digit wins for the first time in three seasons.
Markeisha Watson, Kailin Young, Kamisha Tarvin, Ka'Nosha Fairley, Hayley Pichon, Raven Thompson, Tiana Dampeer and Courtney White will take part in their last games at Gulf Coast.
The group was 8-1 heading into MACJC play.
"We've had some ups and downs. I was so proud of them at the beginning of the year," Conner said. "I'm still proud of them, but we've lost some kids, had some injuries and they have continued to fight."
Conner expects the group's efforts to bear fruit in Perkinston and elsewhere in the future.
"I'm proud of the effort they put forth, the things they've overcome, the things they've worked through," he said. "We're goanna miss them and wish them all the best. It's a good group of young ladies and I'm looking forward to keeping up with them in their future endeavors."
