PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast fell victim to the giant killers of the MACCC women's basketball season, losing 69-37 to Northwest Mississippi at Dantzler Arena.
The Rangers (18-8, 9-3 MACCC) have now knocked off the top three teams in the standings, but the Bulldogs (16-5, 10-2) still control their own destiny. If they win their final two games of the regular season, they'll earn at least a share of the MACCC title.
Gulf Coast was led by Katelyn Brinkley (So., Ridgeland/Ridgeland), who had 15 points. Taelar Felton (So., Clinton/Clinton) added 10.
Northwest led 22-9 after the first quarter, and the Bulldogs couldn't regain control.
Gulf Coast has clinched a home game in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament, and two wins would guarantee a first-round bye. The Bulldogs travel to Copiah-Lincoln on Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. The game will be streamed at https://colinathletics.com/general/live_stream.
They conclude their season next Monday at home against archrival Pearl River.
