Gulf Coast shuts out archrival PRCC

POPLARVILLE — Mississippi Gulf Coast struggled to find rhythm in a start-and-stop game at Pearl River on Friday.

But the Bulldogs got a 73rd minute goal from Jordan Hall to win its first MACJC South Division game 1-0.

"There's things we could have done better, but we just didn't score," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "Overall, I can't be upset with the effort. It was just one of those things."

Gulf Coast (2-1) won a ball in midfield and struck quickly. James Beattie (5-7, 155, So., Williamwood/Glasgow, Scotland) pulled the ball back from one defender, then sprinted left.

He found Hall down the left edge of the penalty box, and he got his second goal of the season.

Bryce Yelverton stopped all three shots on goal for his second shutout of the season.

"I felt like we were in control for most of it," Handy said. "There were a couple of shots where Bryce had to come up big."

Pearl River falls to 0-2.

Gulf Coast returns to action Tuesday when Jones County visits Perkinston. Kickoff at the new MGCCC Soccer Complex is at 7 p.m.
