PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast returns to the new MGCCC Soccer Complex on Friday looking to close out a perfect MACJC South Division first half.
The Bulldogs (6-1, 4-0 South) entertain second-place Meridian (5-1, 3-1) with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. A win will take them a step closer to the first big objective.
"Right now we're happy with where we're going," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "We're looking forward to Meridian and trying to wrap up a 5-0 division mark. If we do that, we're way ahead and we like our chances of reaching our first goal, to host state."
The men's South Division winner hosts the MACJC Tournament Oct. 29-30. Gulf Coast is in the driver's seat right now, having won its last three games by a combined score of 19-2.
The Bulldogs' last two games have been 7-0 victories over Copiah-Lincoln and Southwest. The offensive outburst has come after changing formations following a narrow 1-0 victory at Pearl River.
"I think that was a positive change to simplify things," Handy said. "It's a little less complicated, which has been beneficial for us."
Gulf Coast's only loss of the season was a 5-3 defeat to San Jacinto-South, which is ranked second in the country.
