Mississippi Gulf Coast continued pouring in the goals Tuesday – even in the pouring rain. The Bulldogs blasted Southwest 7-0 in Summit, including a goal during a downpour during the first half.
Coach Chris Handy didn't need much to describe how his team played.
"Very well," he said. "Two words. Very well."
Jordan Hall had his second straight hat trick and added an assist. James Beattie had a goal and two assists, as did Liam Eadsforth.
Gulf Coast (5-1, 4-0 MACJC South) has won its last four in a row. The Bulldogs close out the first half of the division schedule Friday when Meridian visits the new MGCCC Soccer Complex. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Caleb Counselman (5-10, 160, Fr., Pass Christian/Pass Christian) scored his second goal of the year to open the scoring. Hall (5-9, 163, Fr., Royton and Crompton/Manchester, England) notched the next goal before Gage Switzer (5-6, 145, Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) scored his first of the year.
Hall added another before half for a 4-0 lead.
"He's a special player in front of goal," Handy said.
Beattie (5-7, 155, So., Williamwood/Glasgow, Scotland) scored less than three minutes into the second half.
Hall, who also had an assist, completed his hat trick ahead of the final goal by Eadsforth (5-11, 145, Fr., The Radclyffe School/Manchester, England).
Eadsforth and Beattie had two assists, with Tylor Davis (6-0, 164, Fr., West Harrison/Gulfport) and Bennett Bates (5-10, 180, Fr.,West Harrison/Gulfport) picking up one each.
Handy credited Ian Story (6-2, 185, So., Pass Christian/Gulfport) and Case Sloan (5-11, 155, Fr., Stone/Wiggins) and the rest of the defenders for notching their second shutout in a row.
"In a game like that, it's easy to let one in," he said. "They were focused in the second half and took care of business."
