PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Jordan Hall got back on the hat trick express Saturday as the Bulldogs downed Jacksonville College 5-1.
Hall has hat tricks in five of his last six games and now has 20 goals in 10 games.
"It's a combination of things," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "He fits our team well. I think our success depends on him, just like his success depends on us. We're lucky to have him, and I think he's lucky to have us."
Gulf Coast moves to 9-1 with the victory over the Texas school. Jacksonville is now 4-5-1.
Hall (5-9, 163, Fr., Royton and Crompton/Manchester, England) got the first two goals of the game in the first 11 minutes. He created the first one on his own, pouncing on a Jacksonville misplay for a semi-breakaway.
His second came on the rebound of a shot by Tylor Davis (6-0, 164, Fr., West Harrison/Gulfport).
Zykeyous Hawkins (5-9, 160, Fr., Jackson Academy/Jackson) had his jersey tugged in the box to draw a penalty in the 21st minute. James Beattie (5-7, 155, So., Williamwood/Glasgow, Scotland) stepped to the spot to convert it.
Jairizino Burke scored in the 24th minute to cut the Jacksonville deficit to 3-1.
Gulf Coast built its lead back to three four minutes into the second half. Hall attacked down the left wing and found Davis for an easy header.
Hall closed out his hat trick with 27 minutes left.
The Bulldogs return to MACJC action on Tuesday when archrival Pearl River visits Perkinston. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
"It's a good win," Handy said. "I thought we responded well after a good week of practice. Some of the issues we wanted to address were addressed in this game. It's a good win against an out-of-state opponent, which is always hard to get. Now, it's a five-game stretch till the end."
