Softball season ends at MACCC Tourney

ELLISVILLE — Mississippi Gulf Coast never got its bats going at the MACCC Softball Tournament this week, and the Bulldogs' season came to an end Thursday with a 10-0 loss to Northwest Mississippi.

"We didn't, and you just have to attribute that to the Jones and Northwest pitching," Gulf Coast coach David Kuhn said. "They did a great job keeping us at bay. They silenced our bats."

The Bulldogs managed only three singles against Northwest, with K.K. Agner (So., Horn Lake/Magnolia Heights) picking up two of them. Kristian Jones (So., Southaven/DeSoto Central) had the other.

Gulf Coast gave up three runs in the first inning and could never put a dent in the deficit. The Bulldogs managed only four hits in their two games in the tournament.

MGCCC ends the season with a 22-27 record, but the distinguished sophomore class leaves having been part of a squad that finished fourth in the NJCAA Tournament last year.

"It's a bunch of great people who were awesome to be around," Kuhn said. "They never quit. This sophomore class has done a lot the last two years. We're disappointed with the way this season ended, but they did some outstanding things last year.

"Things didn't really go the way we expected this season, but that's a microcosm of life. Sometimes things don't go the way you expect them to go. You just have to get back up and keep moving."
