MGCCC baseball takes one from #1 Jones Saturday

PERKINSTON---A 1-3 week for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College was highlighted by a 10-5 win over #1 Jones in game one of a doubleheader Saturday. The Bulldogs were an out away from sweeping the top ranked Bobcats, but for third time in the last four games, the opposing team scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to secure a victory. On Mar. 26, Co-Lin swept Gulf Coast by winning both games in their last at bat.

Against Jones, the Bulldogs led in game two in the top of seventh inning before a two run homerun by Chase Hensley gave the Bobcats the lead. The Bulldogs took a 3-2 advantage in the bottom of the sixth on a two run homer by Jacob Swiney. D.Q. Farmer had two hits in the game two setback.

In game one, Gulf Coast smacked four home runs, two by Tyler Quave, to double up Jones 10-5. Quave also doubled in a 3-for-3 effort while leadoff batter Garrett Odom's three run blast in the second put the Bulldogs in front for good.

Gulf Coast (13-14, 3-7) travels to face archrival Pearl River Tuesday.
