Bulldogs split again with #1 Jones
ELLISVILLE---MGCCC freshman James Land went 8-for-9 at the plate and Gulf Coast had 24 hits in a doubleheader split with #1 ranked Jones Wednesday. The Bulldogs (19-20, 9-13) are still battling for the fourth playoff spot in the MACJC South Division and end the regular season Saturday at home against archrival Pearl River.
Agaist Jones, Land hit two homeruns and drove in four in game one then had three more hits and 2 RBI in the nightcap. Gulf Coast took game one 9-7 behind a 14 hit offensive attack. Adam Cagnina and Winston Wilson also homered for Gulf Coast with Cagnina, Richie Clark, and Jaocb Swiney each adding two hits. Koby Ross went five innings on the mound and got help from Ryan Henry, Cam Cochran, and Kyle Cumlander for the victory.
Jones took the nightcap 6-4 despite Land's three hit performance, three hits from Jacob Swiney, and a homerun from patrick McMahon. Taylor Olsen started the game and allowed two earned runs in five innings with six strikeouts.
Adam Cagnina hit one of the Bulldogs' four home runs in game one vs. Jones Apr. 23.
