Bulldogs lead MGCCC Invitational

SAUCIER — Mississippi Gulf Coast is two shots ahead of the field at its MGCCC Fall Invitational, which teed off Monday at Windance Country Club.

The Bulldogs, ranked first by Golfstat and fifth in the Bushnell Golfweek NJCAA Division II Coaches Poll, shot 5-over in the first round to edge Meridian for the top spot.

Those two teams have the co-leaders in the individual standings. The Bulldogs' Chase Kaiser (Fr., Natchez/Cathedral) is tied with Diego Leslie at 2-under, the only two scores in the red halfway through the tournament.

Ethan Trouth (So., Sutton Coldfield, England/The Streetly Academy), playing as an individual for Gulf Coast, is tied for third at even-par. David Beard (Fr., Madison/Madison Central) and Matt Wilkinson (So., Madison/Madison Central) are two more shots back tied for fifth.

The tournament is the final event of the fall season for Gulf Coast. It will conclude Tuesday.
