Kaitlin Lee wins NJCAA Pitcher of the Week
PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast right-hander Kaitlin Lee has gotten the 2016 softball season off to a great start.
The Ole Miss signee added another award to early season haul, picking up the OC Sports NJCAA Division II Pitcher of the Week award after a 3-0 week.
That's two NJCAA Pitcher of the Week awards for Lee, having won the final week of the 2015 season after Gulf Coast's Region 23 championship.
Lee struck out 14 batters in 16 innings of work, allowing just eight hits and two earned runs for a 0.87 ERA. She walked only one batter in complete game wins over Navarro and San Jacinto-South and a relief stint against Wallace State.
The Harrison Central product entered the Wallace State game down 8-4, but the Lady Bulldogs rallied to finish the Wallace State Tournament 6-0.
"She made the statement to me, 'That was like a championship atmosphere,'" Gulf Coast coach Kenneth Long said. "I really liked that. That last game was. She loves that atmosphere. She really excels."
