No. 3 MGCCC cruises past Delta

PERKINSTON – No. 3 Mississippi Gulf Coast spread the offense around Friday in a doubleheader sweep of Mississippi Delta at Ross-Smith Field.

Thirteen different Lady Bulldogs got hits on the way to 15-0 and 8-0 wins. Game 1 ended after five innings, and the second ended in the sixth on Gulf Coast's third home run of the game.

"I feel like we're playing really well right now as a team," said Kelli Berry, who went 3-for-3 in the opener. "We're coming together, hitting and playing great defense. It's really fun."

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 35-3, 19-3 MACJC with the win. They return to action Sunday at Northeast. First pitch in Booneville is at 1 p.m.

They close out the regular season April 15 when East Mississippi visits Perkinston. First pitch will be at noon.

Delta falls to 5-29, 2-18.

Lexie Mathis hit her 14^th home run, a two-run shot, in the first inning of the second game. She ranks fourth in the NJCAA, and also doubled among her three hits.

Deborah Elmore hit her sixth home run, and also got her first win in her first decision of the season in the circle with three innings of scoreless relief.

Elmore, Kaitlin Lee and Nora Keehn combined on a four-hitter, striking out seven and walking none.

Molly Murphy's second home run of the season made it 8-0 in the sixth.

"It felt good," she said. "I didn't expect it to go over, but I'm excited about it."

Murphy also doubled in the game and finished the day with three hits.

Kristen Gardner (7-1) threw a four-hitter in the opener, striking out eight and walking one.

Berry drove in three runs with three hits, and Tabitha Johnson and Victoria Allen went 2-for-2. Murphy and Kaitlin Lee also had two hits.

Allen had a triple, and Murphy, Camry Griffith and Lexie Mathis had doubles.
