Kaitlin Lee wins fifth MACJC pitching award of season
PERKINSTON – For the fifth time in 10 weeks this season, Mississippi Gulf Coast's Kaitlin Lee has been named MACJC Pitcher of the Week.
Lee, a sophomore from Harrison Central, went 3-0 last week, allowing only two runs in 19 innings of work. She struck out 20 batters while walking only one, allowing seven hits.
The Ole Miss signee got both wins in the No. 3 Lady Bulldogs' sweep of No. 4 East Central in Decatur. She pitched two innings of relief in the eight-inning 6-1 victory in the opener, then threw a complete-game three-hitter to win 9-2.
Lee also pitched an eight-inning one-hitter to beat Northeast 1-0.
She was great at the plate last week, too. She went 11-for-18 (.611), including a double and a triple, and drove in five runs.
The Gulf Coast pitching staff has dominated the weekly state pitching awards this season. Freshman Nora Keehn has also won twice.
Lee will be nominated for the weekly national award, which she has already won twice. Keehn has also won that award once.
Gulf Coast (37-3, 21-3 MACJC) is scheduled to play Copiah-Lincoln on Wednesday in Wesson. Weather is likely to force a postponement, with an official announcement expected later Tuesday.
