Bulldogs win shootout in Bay Minette
Mississippi Gulf Coast took advantage of every minute of a long game Friday afternoon, beating host Coastal Alabama-South 109-102 in Bay Minette.
Six Bulldogs scored in double figures, led by Maddox Noblitt (Fr., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs), who had 20. The game, which ended in regulation, lasted almost 2 hours, 30 minutes.
"Our balance was really good offensively," Gulf Coast coach Owen Miller said. "It was just a weird game. Hands down, it's the longest college game I've ever been associated with. There were 69 total fouls called. We needed pads out there tonight. Both teams."
Gulf Coast poured in the most points against an NJCAA since at least 2013-14 season, topping a 108-point outburst against Northwest in January of that season.
The Bulldogs (7-1) led by double-digits most of the first half, but the Coyotes (2-7) came back to take a brief lead before halftime. Gulf Coast led 51-48 at the break, and the lead see-sawed through much of the second half until the Bulldogs were able to pull away down the stretch.
Gulf Coast beat the Coyotes 104-81 earlier in the season in Pensacola.
"Maddox took good shots," Miller said. "When he takes good shots, he's gonna make them, and he was taking good shots. He was really good."
Duran Parish (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) had 18 points, with four teammates scoring 14 each: Za'Kariyea Hamilton (So., Jackson/Clinton), King George (Fr., Olive Branch/Olive Branch), Matthew Hinton (So., Atlanta, Ga./Dutchtown) and Kelinee Stone (Fr., Baton Rouge, La./Woodlawn).
"Kelinee had a really big game," Miller said. "He made two 3's there in the second half that were big and got some good rebounds in the second half. I thought he played really well."
Coastal Alabama had four players foul out and made 31-of-45 free throw attempts. Gulf Coast had one player disqualified and shot 40-of-63 from the charity stripe.
The Bulldogs return to action after the Thanksgiving break. They'll play East Central in a non-conference game on Dec. 1.
