Bulldogs move into third in MACCC with big road win

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast unleashed a 14-0 run in two minutes to put away East Mississippi on Thursday in Scooba. The Bulldogs led by as many as 34 on the way to a 97-69 win.

Gulf Coast has won four straight and moved into third place in the MACCC.

"We really locked into the game plan," Bulldogs coach Owen Miller said. "East Mississippi has got some talented offensive guys you've got to account for, and we were really good defensively."

Duran Parish (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) led three Bulldog 20-point scorers with 27. Zakariyya Dwight (Fr., Cordele, Ga./Crisp County) had 22, and Matthew Hinton (So., Atlanta, Ga./Dutchtown) added 20.

Gulf Coast improved to 18-4, 5-2 MACCC. The Bulldogs led 42-32 at halftime and were up 54-47 about six minutes into the second half. They unleashed a 14-0 run to put away the Lions (12-12, 2-6).

"(Dwight) played fantastic," Miller said. "Smoke made some threes and made some plays at the rim, but defensively, it's the best he's played. He came up with 50-50 balls on the glass on both ends. I'm really proud of his development."

Miller also singled out King George (Fr., Olive Branch/Olive Branch) for his defensive efforts, and he added 10 points.

The Bulldogs are back home Monday when Holmes visits. Tipoff at Dantzler Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at http://mgcccbulldogs.com/tickets, and the game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.
