Hinton powers Bulldogs past Dolphins

Matthew Hinton narrowly missed a triple-double and was clutch down the stretch to lead Mississippi Gulf Coast to an 86-81 overtime win over Delgado in New Orleans on Tuesday.

"Matthew had the best game of his career," Bulldogs coach Owen Miller said. "He had 24 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks and really dominated a game on both ends, especially defensively."

Hinton was one of three Bulldogs with double-doubles. King George (Fr., Olive Branch/Olive Branch) had 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Cledarius Ross (Fr., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bulldogs are 1-0 in 2026 and 12-2 on the season. Delgado is 6-10, having dropped 16 straight to Gulf Coast.

Hinton (So., Atlanta, Ga./Dutchtown), who had eight offensive rebounds, scored the last six Bulldog points of regulation, including a pair of free throws with 79 seconds left to get Gulf Coast within two. His dunk with 39 seconds left made it 74-74, sending the game to OT.

Ross made two free throws and Maddox Noblitt (Fr., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs) buried a 3-pointer in the first minute of the extra period. That put the Bulldogs ahead for good.

Noblitt was the other Gulf Coast player in double digits, finishing with 12 points. He made 4-of-9 from the 3-point line.

The Bulldogs shot 75 percent from the free-throw line, cleaning up a poor effort from the charity stripe in the last game of 2025. They held Delgado below 33 percent shooting from the floor.

Gulf Coast led 50-41 early in the second half, but the Dolphins went on a 12-2 run to take the lead. They'd build the lead to as many as seven before the Bulldogs clawed their way back.

Gulf Coast plays its first home game of the new year Thursday when Baton Rouge visits. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. Tickets are available at http://mgcccbulldogs.com/tickets, and the game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch
