Sanders wins MACJC Pitcher of the Week
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Avery Sanders has been named MACJC Pitcher of the Week for April 25-31.
Avery Sanders, a sophomore right-hander from Thibodaux, La., got two wins for No. 9 Gulf Coast, including beating No. 1 Jones 12-2 in five innings. She held Jones to two unearned runs on four hits, striking out five.
Sanders shut out East Mississippi in her other start, winning 8-0 in six innings. It was another four-hitter that saw her strike out seven and walk just one.
It's the second time this season Sanders has won the state award, and she joins teammate Kristen Cade as one of only three pitchers to win twice this season.
