PERKINSTON — No. 9 Mississippi Gulf Coast had to settle for a split Wednesday in a rescheduled doubleheader at Mississippi Delta.
The Lady Bulldogs rebounded from a 5-4 upset in the first game to win the second in five innings, blasting the Trojans 9-0.
Camryn Williams (So., White Hall/White Hall, Ark.) went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI to lead the 13-hit attack in the second game. Lauren Hall (So., Nettleton/Nettleton) had a double among her two hits, and Shelby Archer (Fr., Pearl River Central/Picayune) also had two hits. Talena Satcher (Fr., Enterprise/Enterprise) tripled and had two hits.
Avery Sanders (So., Edward Douglas/Thibodaux, La.) shut out Delta (10-25, 5-21 MACJC) on three hits. She struck out eight and walked just one.
Williams finished the day with five hits after picking up two in the first game. She was the only Lady Bulldog with two hits. Archer, Bailey Massey (So., Bruce/Bruce) and Kaitlynn McGoey (So., Long Beach/Long Beach) had doubles.
Gulf Coast was up 4-1 after four innings, but couldn't hold onto the lead.
Gulf Coast (28-11, 20-6) is now in a tie for third in the conference with East Central. The Lady Bulldogs close out the regular season Friday on Sophomore Day at Ross-Smith Field. They'll host Coahoma in a doubleheader that starts at 2 p.m.
