Bulldogs split in Gulf Shores

Mississippi Gulf Coast split its two matches Friday at the Alabama Coast Volleyball Tournament in Gulf Shores. The Bulldogs were beaten by Gadsden State before rebounding for a scrimmage win against John Melvin University.

Alexa Shinabery (Fr., Marion, Ark./Marion) had 13 digs, five kills and two aces in the first match for the Bulldogs (12-7), a 25-18, 25-17, 25-17 loss to Gadsden State. Dana Cool (Fr., Dothan, Ala./Northside Methodist Academy) led the team with three aces, and Reese Sorrells (Fr., Picayune/Picayune) had a team-best six kills.

In a scrimmage against John Melvin, the Bulldogs cruised to a 25-22, 27-25, 25-20 sweep.

Gulf Coast will be back at Gulf Shores on Saturday for two more matches, facing Northwest Mississippi in a non-conference battle at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs play Bishop State immediately following in the second match.
