Varnes, Johnson named Bulldogs of the Week
PERKINSTON — Landon Varnes and Laylah Johnson have been named Bulldogs of the Week for the week of Aug. 25-31.
Varnes, a sophomore quarterback from Brandon, threw for 426 yards and two touchdowns for No. 10 Gulf Coast, which beat East Mississippi 41-21. He completed 28-of-41 passes and also rushed for a touchdown.
Johnson, a sophomore from Gulfport, had a goal and two assists as Gulf Coast beat No. 20 Pensacola State 4-0.

Omarion Brown, a freshman from Linstead, Jamaica, stopped all 7 shots he faced to post a 2-0 shutout of No. 8 Pearl River.
Malorie Gaughf, a freshman middle blocker from Gulfport, had 40 kills and a .425 kill percentage to lead Gulf Coast to a 4-1 week. She also had 14 total blocks.
Cambell Herrington, a freshman defensive specialist from Brandon, had 69 digs and six aces to help Gulf Coast to a 4-1 week.
Jabari McWilliams, a sophomore defensive tackle from Picayune, had five tackles in No. 10 Gulf Coast's 41-21 win over East Mississippi. He also stripped a ball carrier, recovered the fumble and returned it 25 yards.
Alexander Mink, a sophomore midfielder from Long Beach, had a pair of game-winning goals during a perfect week for No. 12 Gulf Coast. He had an 81st-minute goal to beat East Central 1-0 in Decatur, then had a first-half goal in a 2-0 win over No. 8 Pearl River.
Kaylee Tardo, a freshman from Madison, had one save in a 4-0 win over Pensacola State to combine on a shutout.
