Bulldogs surge past Eagles
PERKINSTON — Once Mississippi Gulf Coast got rolling Monday night, the Bulldogs raced past Meridian in MACCC volleyball action at Dantzler Arena.
Gulf Coast won 13-25, 25-19, 25-11, 25-21 to improve to 7-4 overall, 2-4 MACCC. They changed systems, and it paid off.
"We ended up running a 5-1 with Sydney (Tague), and it ended up working really well," Gulf Coast coach Shayna Walsh said. "I knew it would."
Tague had 20 assists and got the Bulldogs cranked up after the rocky first set. Malorie Gaughf (Fr., Gulfport/Harrison Central) helped energize her team with a kill and a couple of stuffs in a 9-2 run that helped the Bulldogs take over the match. She finished with seven kills and three blocks.
Gulf Coast also welcomed back Reese Sorrells (Fr., Picayune/Picayune), who had eight kills and three blocks. Alexa Shinabery (Fr., Marion, Ark./Marion) led the Bulldogs with nine kills.
Cambell Herrington (Fr., Brandon/Brandon) served the final eight points of the third set, racking up three of her four aces during that stretch.
"Cambell is always strong behind the service line," Walsh said. "I knew putting her back there, she would thrive."
Meridian is 2-11, 0-5.
Gulf Coast hits the road for a Wednesday trip to Senatobia. The Bulldogs played Northwest Mississippi in a match starting at 5 p.m. The match can be streamed at http://nwccrangers.com/watch.
