Sporting News ranks MGCCC sixth in country
PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast is ranked sixth in The Sporting News College Football Preview Top 25, which is out now in that preseason publication.
Gulf Coast finished last season 8-3 and made it to the MACJC Championship game. The Bulldogs are one of four Mississippi schools in the top 11: No. 3 Northwest, No. 4 East Mississippi and No. 11 Copiah-Lincoln.
Coach Chad Huff's program has been in the NJCAA's Top 20 rankings continuously for more than a decade. In the 141-week span, the Bulldogs are 95-23 (.805) and have been ranked in the top 10 for 114 of those weeks. They've appeared in the top 5 for 47 weeks and finished 2015 ranked eighth.
Gulf Coast opens the 2016 season at Itawamba on Sept. 1. The Bulldogs first home game is Sept. 8 when East Mississippi visits newly renovated A.L. May Memorial Stadium.
