Bulldogs face archrival PRCC for Homecoming

PERKINSTON — There's a different feeling around the Mississippi Gulf Coast football team, thanks to a three-game winning streak.

The Bulldogs (4-3, 3-1 MACJC South) will put that streak on the line during Saturday's Homecoming matchup against Pearl River.

"They're playing with a lot of confidence," Gulf Coast coach Chad Huff said. "It's been good to see these kids grow over the last three weeks. The leaders have stepped up on and off the field, and they understand what this football team is capable of."

Kickoff at A.L. May Memorial Stadium is set for 3:30 p.m., with pregame festivities at the stadium beginning at 2:40. Other activities on campus start at 11 a.m. A complete list can be found at https://www.mgccc.edu/homecoming/.

Gulf Coast faces a 2-5 Pearl River team that has both of its wins in the South Division, which keeps the Wildcats in the playoff hunt. The Bulldogs need a win to maintain control of second in the division. Gulf Coast controls its destiny but can't clinch a postseason berth yet.

Homecoming has provided the Bulldogs a few extra days ahead of the showdown with their archrivals.

"It's given the kids a couple more days off to recover and heal from some injuries," Huff said. "We've utilized it more mentally than physically. It's been a benefit for us with extra time to prepare."

Larry Sisson (6-0, 210, So., Resurrection/Pascagoula) stepped in for an injured Kalen Whitlow (6-1, 190, Fr., Northview/Dothan, Ala.) at starting quarterback last week. He had a great debut, completing 24-of-36 passes for 268 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in a 47-35 win over Southwest.

The passing attacked helped open up the running attack, with T'Rod Daniels (5-9, 190, So., Bassfield/Bassfield) and Ge'Vonte Jones (5-11, 175, So., Charleston/Charleston) both topping 100 yards on the ground.

Vaughnte Dorsey (5-11, 195, So., Cleveland/Cleveland, Miss.) had 14 total tackles for the Bulldogs.

"Four out of last five weeks we've played good enough to win," Huff said. "We've played with more passion. We've got to continue to build on that, and we still haven't played a complete game."
