No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast is in second after the first round Saturday of the first MACJC event of the season, five shots behind Meridian.
The Bulldogs shot 3-under, led by a 66 from Jackson Wedgeworth (So., West Jones/Soso) and a 70 from Colby Blake (So., Parklane/Tylertown Wedgeworth is two behind Meridian's Isaiah Jackson in the individual standings at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Raymond.
Damien Dhossche (Fr. Madison Central, Madison), playing on the second MGCCC team, is tied for eighth at 1-over. Gulf Coast's B team is tied for fifth with host Hinds.
The teams return to action Sunday for the final round.
