Gulf Coast splits on the road
No. 14 Mississippi Gulf Coast rallied in the second game to earn a split at Coastal Alabama-South on Saturday, winning 14-8 in Bay Minette.
The Sun Chiefs won the first game 10-3.
Cullan O'Shea (So., Mary G. Montgomery/Mobile Ala.) had a home run and a double while driving in three in the win. Ike Williams (So., St. Martin/St. Martin) had two hits and three RBI, while Dee Hawthorne (Fr., Harrison Central/Gulfport) drove in two runs with two hits, including a double.
Brandon Parker (So., West Harrison/Saucier), Alden Davis (So., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) and Bryce Braddock (Fr., New Hope/New Hope) also doubled.
Justin Lockey (Fr., Long Beach/Long Beach) picked up the win with 2.2 innings of one-run relief. Kole Kittrell (So., Greene County/State Line) struck out three batters in his first inning of work this season to close things out.
The Sun Chiefs (5-4) scored eight in the first inning of Game 1. Williams and Fisher Ray (So., George County/Bruce) had two hits for Gulf Coast (2-3), and O'Shea doubled.
