Gulf Coast looks to start new streak

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast heads to Wesson on Wednesday for two games against a tough Copiah-Lincoln squad. The Wolves split with a nationally ranked Northwest team over the weekend. 

The Bulldogs saw a long win streak end Saturday against Holmes.

First pitch in the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. The games will be streamed at https://www.colinathletics.com/general/live_stream.

After this, Gulf Coast plays three straight home doubleheaders and six out of the next seven at Ken "Curly" Farris Field.

Last Time Out

  • MGCCC split with Holmes on Saturday at Perkinston, winning 12-2 in six innings and losing 7-6. Tyler Hoffman (Fr., Mobile Christian/Mobile Ala.) shined on the mound in a complete game, and the Bulldogs slugged four homers in the win. The loss broke a 12-game win streak.
  • Co-Lin split on the road with No. 17 Northwest on Saturday, winning the opener 6-4 and losing 9-7 in the second. Ryan Zimmerman homered in the victory.

Previous Meeting

Gulf Coast swept a doubleheader on March 21, 2018, winning 13-5 and 6-5 in Perkinston. Dylan Menhennett had five RBI in the first game, and Brandon Parker (So., West Harrison/Saucier) hit a tying home run in the seventh before Alden Davis (So., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) won it in the eighth.

Notes

  • Parker is tied for sixth in NJCAA Division II with six home runs. He's hit safely in 15 of 18 games.
  • Cullan O'Shea (So., Mary G. Montgomery/Mobile Ala.) has a 13-game RBI streak and he's tied for seventh nationally with 31 RBI.
  • Dee Hawthorne (Fr., Harrison Central/Gulfport) is 2-for-3 in each of the last five games he's played.
  • Dawson Hall (Fr., East Central/Hurley) is 16th in the nation among pitchers who have thrown 30-plus innings with 10.2 K/9.
