Gilbert wins MACJC Pitcher of the Week
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast right-hander Darby Gilbert has been named MACJC Pitcher of the Week for his sensation relief appearance in a playoff game last week.
Gilbert, a freshman from Pascagoula, struck out 11 batters in 4.1 innings of relief and picked up the win in the Bulldogs' 10-8 win over No. 16 Meridian in Game 1 of their Region 23 qualifying series.
He allowed one run on four hits, allowing the Bulldogs to rally from a three-run deficit. Gulf Coast would go on to sweep the series and qualify for the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament which starts Wednesday in Fulton.
Gilbert is eligible for the NJCAA Pitcher of the Week award. He's the third Gulf Coast player to win a state honor this year, joining Dawson Hall and Miller Hancock.
