Gulf Coast swept at home

PERKINSTON — No. 18 Mississippi Gulf Coast saw its losing streak move to four games Saturday when No. 16 Northwest Mississippi claimed a doubleheader at Ken "Curly" Farris Field.

The Rangers (22-6/11-3 MACJC) won 6-2 and 5-2 over the Bulldogs, who fall to 17-9/9-5.

Gulf Coast returns to action Wednesday with a trip to Hinds. First pitch in Raymond is set for 3 p.m.

The Bulldogs led 1-0 in the first game after Alden Davis (So., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) hit a sacrifice fly to score Ike Williams (So., St. Martin/St. Martin), who led off the first with a triple.

Fisher Ray (So., George County/Bruce) made it 2-0 with an RBI single in the fourth, but Northwest got back-to-back homers in the sixth to take the lead and tacked on two in the seventh and another in the eighth.

Ray had a pair of singles in the first game.

The Rangers scored five in the fourth inning of Game 2, and the Bulldogs offense was dead in the water until a two-out error at first let Cullan O'Shea (So., Mary G. Montgomery/Mobile Ala.) score after he'd led off with a double.

After a hit-by-pitch and single, Nick Sims (Fr., New Hope/New Hope) singled in another run to make it 5-2 and brought the go-ahead run to the plate. But the Bulldogs wouldn't get any closer.
