Mink recognized as Scholar All-American

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Alexander Mink has piled up awards for his play on the soccer field this year.

He added another big honor Thursday, this time for his work in the classroom as well as on the field. Mink was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American First Team.

The Junior College division award is given to sophomores and requires a 3.30 GPA, a player start in half the games, play in 75 percent of games and be an elite player. There are 11-man first and second teams.

Mink, a midfielder from Long Beach who has a 4.0 GPA in athletic training, tied for fourth in the MACCC with 16 goals. He had hat tricks against Georgia Military, Southwest Mississippi and East Mississippi and added a pair of assists on the season.

He's the 14th Gulf Coast men's player to earn the honor since 2013.

Mink has earned the following awards this year: All-MACCC First Team, All-NJCAA Region 23, NJCAA All-American Third Team, United Soccer Coaches All-South Region and United Soccer Coaches All-American.
