Bulldogs clinch playoff spot

Mississippi Gulf Coast clinched a postseason berth Tuesday with a 5-0 win over East Mississippi in Scooba.

Alexander Mink (So., Long Beach/Long Beach) notched his third hat trick of the year, all coming in the second half against 10-man EMCC.

Trey Roche (Fr., Pass Christian/Pass Christian) opened the scoring in the 27th minute, with Pedro Harb (Fr., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/CEJA Copacabana) picking up an assist. Harb made it 2-0 less than a minute later when he converted a penalty after a Lion was sent off for pulling the Brazilian down.

Hayden Thomas (So., Clinton/Clinton), Michael Baty (Fr., Gulfport/St. Patrick) and Seamus Murphy (So., Gulfport/Gulfport) assisted on Mink's goals.

The Bulldogs (8-5, 6-3 MACCC) defense notched a shutout without Omarion Brown (Fr., Linstead, Jamaica/St. Catherine) facing a shot.

EMCC is 1-13-1, 0-9.

The NJCAA Gulf South District quarterfinals are scheduled for Oct. 31. The second, third and fourth seeds will host those games. The Bulldogs can move into fourth place in the MACCC by beating Hinds at Perk on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
