Green signs with William Carey

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Hayden Green, who his coach calls the "consummate team player," will be continuing his collegiate career at William Carey.

Green signed scholarship papers Wednesday with family and teammates there to support him.

William Carey plays NAIA golf in the Southern States Athletic Conference. There has been a long line of Gulf Coast players who have gone on to play for the Crusaders, who are coached by Jeff Mixon.

"They've had a good program for the last couple of years, and I want to be a part of trying to make it even better," said Green.

The sophomore from D'Iberville has finished in the top-10 of eight of nine events the Bulldogs have completed this season. He finished second at the MACCC Tournament Preview and has two other top-five finishes.

"He has been the consummate team player, team member," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "He's always supporting the other guys. He's had some great stretches where he's played well. I know he's going to be a great teammate on Jeff's team as a Crusader."

Snell is predicting a strong postseason for Green. The Bulldogs play in the MACCC Championship in Meridian next week, with the NJCAA District D Tournament later in the month.

Green credits his coach here at Gulf Coast the past three seasons for helping him get to the next level.

"Coach Snell is a great coach who knows exactly what he's talking about," Green said. "He knows so much about the golf game and how to play the game smart."
