No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast has four shots to make up at the Copiah-Lincoln Spring Invitational after a remarkably close first round Wednesday.

The Bulldogs are in fourth place, and five of the six teams are within 11 shots of No. 8 Meridian. The Eagles shot 24-over 312, and sixth-place Itawamba is at 323.

Chase Wilkinson (Fr, Madison Central/Madison) led the Gulf Coast golfers with a 4-over 76 and is three behind Southwest Mississippi's Brett Baker, who leads the field. Wilkinson and Hayden Green (So, D'Iberville/Biloxi) are in the top 10, but are playing as individuals and not part of the five-person squad whose scores count in the team standings.

Matt Wilkinson (Fr, Madison Central/Madison) is tied for eighth with Green at 5-over, and Reeves Johnson (Fr, Germantown/Madison) is tied for 12th two more shots back.

The final round will be played Tuesday at Wolf Hollow Golf Course in Wesson.
