PERKINSTON---The Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College tennis team is right at home at it's brand new Tennix Complex located on the Perkinston Campus. Last week the Bulldogs opened play at the new facility by hosting Holmes and Meridian.

The men's team took out two of three courts in doubles to open the match and four out of six in singles to get by Holmes 6-3. Leading the way for Gulf Coast were Tyler Youngblood, Bobby Vo, Josh Johnson and Travis Wilson.  Johnson/Wilson won at number one doubles while Youngblood/Vo took out Langham/Crews 8-1. In singles play Wilson, Vo, Youngblood, and Johnson were all victorious.

The women got off to a fast start and swept Holmes 9-0. The womens team was led by Sophomores Brittney Buker, Aliesha Barlow, Annissia Johnson, and Kit Chowdhary.  Also winning at singles and doubles for the Lady Bulldog tennis team were freshman Christa Owen and Tori Rose.

On. Mar 21 the Women's team got past Meridian 5-4 with Christa Owen winning in singles then teaming with Chowdhary to win in doubles. Buker/Rose and Barlow/Johnson also took doubles victories with Buker earning a singles victory.

The men fell to Meridian 7-2 as Bobby Vo and Tyler Youngblood earned a doubles win while Vo also earned a singles victory.

"I thought the women's team prepared well for the match against Meridian," said Gulf Coast tennis coach Gary Bourgeois. "I was proud of Brittany Buker for taking the deciding match against Meridian. She's been working very hard at practice. The men's team is competing hard in matches and that will help them improve."

Gulf Coast will be home again Apr. 1 against Co-Lin.
