Women's tennis advances to NJCAA Tourney

PERKINSTON---For the 9th time in 11 seasons, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will send a team to NJCAA Tournament. The Lady Bulldog women's tennis team finished third in this weekend's MACJC Tournament and qualified for the National event held May 3-9 in Plano, TX. 

In Saturday's action, Gulf Coast's Brittney Buker secured the #4 women's singles title in a 6-4, 6-3 win over Caroline Perry of Jones. Buker then teamed with Tori Rose and fell in the women's #2 doubles final 6-2, 6-2 to Brenda Hegwood/Brooke Martin of Jones.

Buker and Rose join Lady Bulldog teammates Christa Owen, Kit Chowdhary, Annissa Johnson, and Aliesha Barlow and head coach Gary Bourgeois on the trip to the Nationals next week. Bourgeois is also the 2014 MACJC Coach of the Year for women's tennis.

Gulf Coast hosted the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament Apr. 24-26 at its new Tennis Complex and at the Wynn Tennis Center in Wiggins.
