Women's tennis plays strong at NJCAA Tourney
PLANO,TX---Calling it a "business vacation", the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College women's tennis team made a solid showing at the NJCAA Tournament earlier this week.
It's the 9 time in 11 seasons that a Gulf Coast squad has reached the Nationals.
MGCCC sophomore Brittney Buker polished off her season by winning the Consolation breacket in #4 singles. Buker lost in the opening round to the NJCAA'S 5th seeded player Julia Marcencro 6-0, 6-0 but then recovered to whip Korynne Arnold 8-0 in the Consolation round. Buker then took care of Kaylee Siensa 8-2, Ashten Watts 8-2, and Carolina Hernandez 8-3 in the Consolation final.
Buker teamed with doubles partner Tori Rose to reach the #2 doubles Consolation semifinals while #1 doubles team Kit Chowdhary and Christa Owen also made it to the Consolation semi's. Aliesha Barlow and Anneisia Johnson got to the Consolation quarterfinals in #3 doubles play while Barlow also advanced to the #6 singles Consolation semifinals.
Brittney Buker won the Nation #4 singles Consolation Bracket at the NJCAA Tournament May 4-8.
