Tennis splits mid-season match with Faulkner St.
PERKINSTON---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College took a break from MACJC action Monday and took on Faulkner State at the college's new Tennis Complex.
Faulkner St. men's team won two of three doubles points and won four out of six singles points to double up Gulf Coast 6-3. In number three doubles Tyler Youngblood and Bobby Vo defeated Ian Thomas and Jay Shafford 8-4. In singles play, Travous Wilson and Bobby Vo were both victorius.
The women's team lost two out of three doubles courts but came back strong in singles to win the match 6-3. At number two doubles Tori Rose and Brittney Buker of Gulf Coast defeated Danielle Clark and Merideth Gwin of Faulkner St, 8-3. Christa Owen, Kit Chowdhary, Brittney Buker, Annissia Johnson, and Alieshia Barlowall stepped up to take home victories in singles play.
"I'm really happy with how we're playing in singles matches," said Gulf Coast head coach Gary Bourgeois. "We've been spending a lot of time in practice working on being smarter players and it's starting to show in matches."
Gulf Coast heads north this weekend to take on Northeast and Itawamba Apr. 11-12.
Travous Wilson earned a singles win vs. Faulkner St. Apr. 7.
