PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast did what it needed to Friday, picking up two wins over Mississippi Delta at Ken "Curly" Farris Field.

Garrett Gardner drove in five runs in a 15-5 win in five innings, and James Vines struck out six and allowed two runs in six innings of an 11-6 victory.

"Today was big," Bulldogs coach Zach Allen said. "It gets us to .500 in the conference going to the last 12. That's what our goal was. No matter how it happened or whatever it took, we needed to get to .500, and we handled our business today."

Gulf Coast is 23-14 overall, 8-8 MACCC.

Gardner (Fr., Madison/Madison-Ridgeland Academy) had a grand slam in the third to break open Game 1 and also added a double. Anthony Tanner (Fr., Hurley/East Central) went 4-for-5 with two doubles.

Jayden Parker (Fr., Hernando/Northpoint Christian) had a two-run, game-ending home run.

In the second game, Vines watched the Bulldogs put up seven runs in the sixth then took the seventh off.

No Gulf Coast player had two hits. Braxton Jones (Fr., Perkinston/Stone) had a double and drove in two runs, as did Jordan Davis (So., Neshoba/Neshoba Central). Brady Saxton (Fr., Brandon/Northwest Rankin) also drove in two runs, and Gardner doubled.

Delta is now 4-26, 0-16.
