Men’s Tennis, Men’s Soccer top MACCC academic standings

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast had two teams named MACCC Academic Teams of the Year by the conference Tuesday, and the men's soccer and men's tennis teams will walk a little taller as a result.

Coach Sam Blackburn's tennis team posted an eye-popping 3.74 team grade-point average, and coach Chris Handy's soccer squad won for the sixth time in the last seven years after compiling a 3.67 GPA. They had the highest averages among all the teams in their respective sports.

The men's tennis team not only excelled in the classroom, but they were also NJCAA Region 23 champions after an MACCC runner-up finish. The Bulldogs went on to the NJCAA Championship, where they were third, the highest finish in school history.

The men's soccer team was fourth in the conference, advancing to the NJCAA Gulf South District quarterfinals.

The Gulf Coast dance teams also won with a 3.56 GPA.
