Bulldogs continue MACJC South Division grind vs. Southwest

After back-to-back victories on the road, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College returns home this week to face South Division foe Southwest. The Bulldogs edged past archrival Pearl River 19-17 last week behind a solid defensive effort and enough big plays on offense. Gulf Coast will be paced by MACJC leading rusher Antwon Wells, who's amassed 715 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2013.  Taking up the wide receiving slack has been freshman wideout Ishmel Morrow (22 catches, 283 yards, 2 TD'S) along with NJCAA All-American Dhaquille Williams (30 catches, 436 yards, 6 TD'S).

The Gulf Coast defense scored another touchdown last week after a sack by Maurice Swain and a fumble recovery by Tarvares Bingham. This season the Bulldog defense has scored 5 touchdowns, recorded 13 sacks, and forced 12 turnovers. Currently Phalen Booker leads the Bulldogs with 4 sacks while this week's MACJC Defensive Player of the Week Trey Wafford has 3.5 sacks. Both Josh Keys and Darius Jones lead the team with 2 interceptions apiece.

Southwest opened the season 2-2 but has lost two in a row, including a 40-20 Homecoming loss to Hinds. The Bears come to town with the MACJC'S 13th ranked offense and 10th ranked defense. Quarterbacks Jamil Golden and DeAngelo Ballard have combined to throw 4 TD'S against 2 interceptions. Chris jones leads the Southwest rushing attack with 292 yards and 4 touchdowns.
