Bulldogs hope to close regular season strong at East Central
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College has beaten MACJC South Division rival East Central 10 straight times. The Bulldogs are hoping to make it 11 in a row when they travel to Decatur to take on the Warriors in the 2013 regular season finale.
While it might seem like a foregone conclusion that Gulf Coast will romp over East Central, Thursday's game is what's called a "trap game," with a playoff clinching win over Co-Lin last week, and a post-season trip to either Itawamba or East Mississippi next week.
The Bulldogs locked up the #2 seed in the South Division with a 21-7 win over Co-Lin on Homecoming. That means Gulf Coast has been to the post-season for the seventh year in a row. The win featured the return of sophomore quarterback Colton Kane, who came off the bench to throw two touchdown passes, and a defense that forced two turnovers and allowed only 42 yards rushing.
Kane (50/86, 660 yds, 7 TD'S, 1 INT in 2013) will once again have NJCAA All-American wide receiver Dhaquille Williams (37 catches, 557 yds, 7 TD'S in 2013) as one of his favorite targets. While running back Antwon Wells only tallied 40 yards on 17 carries against Co-Lin, the sophomore continues to lead the MACJC in rushing with 847 yards along with 11 touchdowns.
East Central's only win of 2013 came in a 36-31 decision over Mississippi Delta Oct. 12. The Warriors are averaging 8 points per game on offense while giving up an average of 39 points per contest on defense.
MGCCC Head Football Coach Steve Campbell hopes his team can finish the regular season with a win vs. East Central.
