Mental toughness and competition key at MGCCC Offensive/Defensive Lineman/Skills Camp
PERKINSTON---It's a bit of a stretch to call the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Offensive/Defensive Lineman Skills Camp a "camp", because in reality it's more like a football convention.
Once again at least 480 high school football players from around the region converged on the college's Perkinston Campus for three days of hard work, team building, and a true test of endurance.
"The kids work very hard," said Gulf Coast head football coach Chad Huff. "The players get in lots of good work and instruction from some great coaches."
This week the offensive and defensive linemen worked out on the soccer field while skill players went through individual and 7-on-7 drills on the field turf at A.L. May Memorial Stadium. Teams from all over Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida traveled to Perkinston this week for the camp experience.
"Alot of it is lineman technique stuff," said Brandon head football coach Brad Peterson, "but most of it is mental toughness. The heat is always an issue, and we tell our players that when they get hot and tired, they have to find another gear and mentally get through it. We want them to come here and bond together."
Camp wrapped up Tuesday with a final workout and some team and individual awards.
Lineman from Forest (MS) got through drills at the MGCCC Offensive/Defensive Lineman Camp.
